Basic Skate
If Roller Derby isn't your personal goal, tha's great too! This program will provide you with the necessary skills to skate safely in whatever way brings you joy. We're excited that you've chosen to work hard, get sweaty and laugh with us!
Skate with confidence and control! This 8-week, non-contact beginner program guides you through the basic skills of stops, falls, backwards skating, crossovers, and transitions.
The curriculum is centered around the goal of passing WFTDA minimum skills requirements and progressing to contact-level skating, where skaters can learn how to play the sport of Roller Derby. In addition to on-skate practices, participants will have opportunities to learn about the rules and gameplay in group discussions, and learn how to officiate at league scrimmages and games.
After the 8 weeks, there will be an assessment where you will be able to showcase your new skater skills. If the minimum skills requirements are met, new skaters will be invited to join our Cadet Program.

Contact Skating Bootcamp
This 5-week program will introduce skater-on-skater contact (just called “contact”) skills while re-iterating and building upon foundational non-contact skills. The bootcamp is designed to get our new skaters ready to practice with the rest of the league.
Note: Contact skaters will need WFTDA insurance to participate in contact. This insurance helps with medical costs in case of an injury. This insurance is a league requirement, so if you are drafted onto Jet City or you transfer elsewhere, you can use this insurance. This insurance is a strict requirement and cannot be bypassed. Learn more about the WFTDA insurance here.

Cadet Program
When a skater has passed all of the requirements of the contact skating bootcamp, they will graduate to our Cadet Program and become league members, allowing them to join league practices. In the cadet program, skaters are set on the path to be able to skate in league scrimmages and to be drafted onto a Jet City team!
NEW SKATER REGISTRATION
We are currently unable to accommodate drop-ins for new skaters who have not previously visited Jet at this time. This is so that we can focus on getting our current skaters contact and scrimmage ready!
Contact newskater@jetcityrollerderby.com for any questions or to get more information about the program.
Program Practices
All program levels follow Jet City's weekly practice schedule.
The skating program will focus on new skills each week, with a natural progression to build on what was previously taught. Some sessions will be up-close observation, others hands-on. Participants are encouraged to attend at least one practice per week to ensure they are getting all the fundamentals.
